Ford to outsell GM in March?

March sales don't end until Thursday evening, but an Edmunds sales forecast suggests that Ford could beat General Motors in sales for the first time since February, 2010. The Blue Oval is projected to sell 210,000 vehicles for the month, up 34 percent from February figures.
NASCAR Driver David Ragan hopped out of his Ford Fusion and into a Ford Racing-modified 2011 Mustang GT and set out on the Bristol Motor Speedway to take a shot at the half-mile speed trials. The result? A new production car lap record of 98.497 miles per hour in 19.481 seconds.

Happy Hauling from Ford

According to Ford, 50 percent of F-Series truck owners regularly tow trailers. Between boaters', contractors', landscapers' and adventure enthusiasts', 50 percent sounds about right. And Ford just made all of their lives a little bit easier.

The auto maker recently announced the first-ever towing and off-roading app for pickup trucks. The app, which is exclusive to the Ford F-Series lineup... at least for now, is not the conventional app you're probably thinking of. It…
Among the Kansas nominees are the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department, Spirit AeroSystems in Wichita , Pittsburg State University, Danny Zeck Ford in Leavenworth and HCA Midwest Medical Center in Overland Park.

According to the Detroit-based American auto maker, the all new Ford Focus EV is going to be low on the maintenance factor - meaning it won't need much in the way of repairs, nor will it cost you too much when you actually need to get something fixed. Ford even went so far as to release a list of items they predict you will never need to have serviced within the first 150,000 miles…

To fill the void left by the stout-but-dated Crown Vic, Ford is releasing a fleet of new Police Interceptors, and they've got a legacy to uphold. Ahead of their launch, Dearborn pitted the new Interceptors against their competition from Dodge and Chevrolet, the Dodge Charger and the Chevrolet Tahoe. Ford is releasing 2011 Explorer and 2011 Taurus versions of the Interceptor, with the Explorer getting a 3.7-liter Ti-VCT V6 making 300 horsepower and the Taurus available with either a 3.5-liter 280-hp V6, or the 365 hp 3.5-liter EcoBoost mill from the SHO. Ford is offering the Interceptors in front or all-wheel drive guise, eschewing the Crown Vic's rear-drive-only platform. Click past the jump to see how Ford's efforts stack up to the competition. Filed under: Car Buying, Etc., Ford Ford Fusion Hybrid - Click above for high-res image gallery For the second year running, the Ford Fusion has not only come out as the top family sedan pick in Consumer Reports' list of the 2011 American Top Picks, once again eclipsing the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry in reliability. Topping the list in the budget car segment is the Ford Fiesta, though CR admits they aren't sure how reliable the car will be, given that it's a clean-sheet design. The Chevrolet Cruze takes the small car category. Ford captures CR's small SUV category with the Escape, and Chevrolet has nailed down the family SUV category with its Equinox 2LT. The funky Ford Flex takes the family hauler category, and the Mustang is the top pick among sporty cars. The only non-Ford or Chevrolet product on the list is the Buick Regal, which takes top honors for CR's sports sedan category. The Ford Fusion Hybrid (above) garners the American green car pick for 2011, and the Chevrolet Avalanche rounds out the list in the pickup truck category. It should be noted that some categories in CR's list only have a top-scoring American vehicle, not a top pick. In the budget car segment, the sports sedan segment and the small car segment, CR passes on picking a favorite because there are models in the segment that are too new to have reliability data yet. Filed under: Budget, Sedan, Marketing/Advertising, Videos, Hatchback, Ford Ford's global Focus campaign - Click above to watch commercials Company: Ford Motor Co. Brand: Ford Medium: TV Ad Agency: Team Detroit/WPP Global Product: Focus Campaign: Global Focus Launch What We Like: The all-new Focus is a moonshot better than the Focus we've had in the U.S. for the last decade. While Europe got a new Focus during the Bush Administration, the U.S. got an insufficiently upgraded model with a pretty low-rent interior and no hatchback version. These new ads do a slick job of conveying that the new Focus is, in fact, new and possessing features people wouldn't expect in an economy-priced car. The seriousness of the orchestral soundtrack and the messaging may elevate the Focus above the riff-raff of the sub-compact segment. One recent Hyundai Elantra ad, for example, had a sheep driving. Kia likes Hamsters to push its cars. What We Don't Like: To make these ads work globally and achieve the cost savings Ford was seeking, there is a lowest common denominator look and feeling to the ads Ford previewed for us. The visuals were specifically shot so they could be edited to run any place in the world with some easy editing to adapt to local needs and language. But the ads - while conveying useful information about what is, let's face it, a very rational new-car selection - aren't all that interesting. They certainly aren't entertaining - at least not the first batch we got to see. The question is whether the features spotlighted in the ads will be engaging to viewers, and make them curious enough to investigate the new Focus on the Internet. Strategy: Ford is launching the Ford Focus, it's first truly global car under the Mulally regime, with an ambitious global ad campaign. The agency has produced some 50 TV ads to run in Ford's markets across the world, all highlighting technology and innovation like self-closing grille vents (active grille shutters), stop-start fuel saving technology (for Europe) and the like. The Focus is a critically important car for Ford, both financially and for credibility worldwide, and Ford officials say they saved tens of millions of dollars, perhaps in excess of 100 million, by getting all the markets across the world to pool their thinking and draw from a common bank of video, photography and soundtracks. That savings is being plowed back into media buys, helping each market better hit its sales targets. Grade: B Watch the commercials after the jump and take our poll below.
