1968 Ford Mustang GT Fastback in Bullitt (1968
We could never write this list without including a Steve McQueen movie! This late-60s crime action thriller features one of the most iconic cinematic car chases of all time, set in San Francisco, with Steve McQueen’s character, Frank Bullitt, behind the wheel.
For the film, Warner Brothers ordered two identical 1968 Mustangs, both in Highland Green and 390 CID engines. One of the cars sustained significant damage during filming and was sent to a scrapyard. In 2016, however, the car was found in the backyard of a house near Los Cabos, Mexico and is undergoing a full restoration.
The second vehicle passed through several hands before being stored in a garage from 1980 to 2014. In 2020, it sold at auction for $3.4 million, making it the most expensive Ford in the world.
In 2001, Ford released the Bullitt edition Ford Mustang GT, and another Bullitt version in 2008 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the movie. A third version was released in 2018 for the 2019 and 2020 model years.

1966 Ford Thunderbird in Thelma and Louise (1991)
Spoiler alert: Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis drive this iconic Ford convertible off a cliff and into the Grand Canyon at the end of this movie – although the filming is finished as we see the car in mid-air.
The convertible version of the T-bird was chosen because it’s easy to film actors inside, and because it’s one of the most perfect vehicles for cruising on a road trip. The film used a total of five identical cars, two of which were stunt cars. They were all showroom-quality vehicles with no customization, which made sense – Susan Sarandon’s character wouldn’t have chosen that.
In 2008, one of the Thunderbirds in Thelma and Louise was sold at auction for $71,500. Inside were autographs from Brad Pitt, who plays a thief named J.D. in the film, and from Geena Davis, who played the role of Thelma.
Ford Motor Company produced the Thunderbird from 1955 to 1997, reviving it again as a luxury two-seater from 2002 to 2005. While it’s unlikely that you’ll find a classic Thunderbird at your local Ford dealership, you may get lucky and find one of the later model years if you carefully watch sales listings.
1975 Ford Gran Torino in Starsky & Hutch (2004)
Members of a certain generation probably remember watching the TV show Starsky & Hutch, which aired from 1975 to 1979. In 2004, Hollywood producers thought the time was right to revive the buddy cop piece and turn it into a movie starring Owen Wilson, Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, and Snoop Dogg.
The movie also featured a 1975 Ford Gran Torino with the same custom red-and-white paint job as seen in the original TV show. A total of nine were used during filming, and they were souped up with more powerful engines, alloy wheels, and modern tires.
One of the hero cars driven by Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson in the film was sold at auction for $50,000.
While Zeck Ford doesn’t sell the 1975 Gran Torino, you can find quite a few sporty vehicles, both used and new, at our Kansas City dealership. See our inventory online, and let us know when you’re ready to take a test drive.
1974 Ford F-250 Truck in Take This Job and Shove It (1981)
An early 80’s comedy based on Johnny Paycheck’s song by the same name, Take This Job and Shove It tells the story of a corporate conglomerate purchasing four breweries and subsequently selling one to an oil tycoon; hilarity ensues. It also was the first movie to feature monster trucks, specifically Bigfoot #1, a blue Ford F-250 pickup with 48” tires.
The iconic F-250 underwent modifications prior to the movie – and for reasons unrelated to the film – by owner Bob Chandler. Today, it resides in Pacific, Missouri, as a display vehicle and has inspired lots of other monster trucks under the Bigfoot moniker.
Will you find a monster truck at Zeck Ford? We think the chance is very, very low. But you can find a selection of Ford F-150 and Ford F-250 trucks. And hey, if you wanted to turn one into a monster truck, you certainly could. Shop our inventory to find the truck of your dreams.
1992 Ford Explorer XLT in Jurassic Park (1993)
The American science fiction film directed by Steven Spielberg and based on a novel by Michael Crichton featured the Ford Explorer as tour vehicles for the dinosaur-themed park. They were certainly less thrilling than the dinosaurs, but definitely memorable, thanks to their brightly-colored exterior emblazoned with the movie (and park) name.
These weren’t your standard Explorer, though. In the film, these tour vehicles supposedly were equipped with a self-navigation system, night-vision goggles stowed under the seats, and a water tap so passengers could stay hydrated. We don’t know much more about them, though, because they weren’t really the star of the show.
One of the vehicles is on display in the Universal Studios Islands of Adventure theme park in Orlando, Florida.
Ford Motor Company still makes the Explorer, and it remains a highly popular mid-size SUV in the United States, though it has undergone several upgrades since 1993. Zeck Ford, your Ford dealer in Kansas, has an array of Explorer SUVs to choose from. And none of them have dinosaur teeth marks on the body.
