First Ever F-150 Diesel Rolling into Kansas City

March 28th, 2018 by

The very first ever F-150 Diesel for sale in Kansas City is coming this spring. It is bringing another first with it which is the 3.0-liter Power Stroke diesel engine that will give you 30 mpg on the highway. For those of you who want a truck that will give you best-in-class for towing and payload, you will definitely want to look into this new engine. It is a V6 and gives you 440 lb/ft of torque and is now the sixth engine option available to you on an F-150. This engine will also give you the capacity to tow up to 11,400 pounds and gives you a payload capacity of 2,020 pounds. The more you tow and haul with this vehicle the more you will be able to appreciate how efficient it is when it comes to filling up the tank.

The new F-150 Power Stroke diesel has new technology that was first incorporated in the F-Series Super Duty’s 6.7-liter Power Stroke engine (America’s most powerful pickup truck ever). The same Ford team who came up with the 6.7-liter Power Stroke engine came up with the 3.0-liter Power Stroke V6 diesel engine for the needs of F-150 customers who need to tow and haul on a regular basis. The highest amount of torque is at a super-low 1,750 RPM and the torque delivery stays consistent and strong throughout the range so that you can easily haul heavy loads or tow over long distances.

One of the ways the team was able to keep the weight down on the engine while keeping the durability high was to use the same iron block compacted-graphite material that they used in the 2.7-liter EcoBoost. The team chose a highly efficient turbocharger so that the turbo lag was reduced and the responsiveness was increased. The common-rail fuel injection system used makes the vehicle perform better and increases fuel efficiency and the high-pressure injection calibration (29,000 lbs./square inch) will give you a smoother, quieter ride with less emissions being produced. Dual filters improve the break-in and the two-stage oil pump and cast-aluminum oil pan reduce parasitic loss to improve the fuel efficiency.

To be able to make the most fuel-efficient F-150, Ford had to go with the high-strength, aluminum-alloy body that we introduced in the 2015 model. This body lightened the load of the vehicle by 700 pounds and because of this, Ford was able to have stronger axles paired with a steel frame to add to the strength of the 2018 model.

The new engine that the team came up with focuses on extreme driving conditions and has a premium engine-driven mechanical fan as well as dual radiator shutters for better performance when you are driving in high temperatures or high altitude. There is a clear advantage over the electric fans used in competitors’ vehicles. The mechanical fan has the ability to move more air across the radiator and intercooler when you are dealing with extreme conditions and gives you more power and passing capability when you are dealing with more harsh conditions. If you are in more mild conditions the F-150 engine control system will actually close down the radiator shutters to improve the aerodynamics of the vehicle as well as its efficiency and reduce energy loss.

The SelectShift 10-speed automatic transmission has been designed specifically for the 3.0-liter Power Stroke diesel engine. This transmission maximizes shift points and gear ratios so that you can optimize power and efficiency of the vehicle. The SelectShift can actually choose the right gear for you based on the need at the time. This also comes standard with Auto Start/Stop to help you drive fuel efficiently. In one test, the F-150 was equipped with the new 3.0-liter Power Stroke diesel and was able to climb 13 miles at a 6% grade in temperatures over 100 degrees and was able to maintain a consistent amount of power output throughout the drive.

The F-150 is actually the favorite vehicle of the American military. According to the United Services Automobile Association’s car buying service, it is chosen the most by retirees and active duty military members. This is an honor that goes to show that Ford has had 41 years of quality, durability, and resilience in its F-Series trucks and it has been America’s best-selling vehicle for 36 of those 41 years.

This is just the newest recognition for the 2018 F-150 lineup. It has also earned the 2018 Truck of Texas award, the 2018 Motor Trend Truck of the Year award and the 2018 Kelley Blue Book Best Buy Award (which it has received for four years in a row). This year the USAA will be sponsoring the military day at the auto show in Washington, D.C.
