The 2019 Ford EcoSport

The 2018 Ford EcoSport packs a big punch in a small package. Its tech-centric interior and environmentally friendly gas mileage are perfect for a modern perspective. This international vehicle is being placed in Ford’s North American lineup to replace traditional vehicles, including the Focus and the Fiesta.

The 2019 Ford EcoSport makes a great replacement for these outgoing models. This subcompact can carry five passengers with slightly more legroom than the Focus hatchback could. Even though it’s smaller than the Ford Escape, the EcoSport boasts 21 cubic feet of space for cargo. This space can be accessed from a tailgate that swings sideways.

There are several other advantages over these outgoing models that make it perfect for driving around town without spending a truckload of money on gas. This model is taller, giving the driver more visibility and making it easier to maneuver and handle, especially in tight spaces. The pushed-in wheels and its tiny size add to the ease of handling that one can expect from the EcoSport.

The front seats offer more room for heads and legs than is typically expected in a subcompact, making them comfortable. However, the rear seats run smaller which may lead to some arguments about who gets to sit up front. It does give some more room for knees than other comparable models, so passengers should be comfortable in the back for a ride around town.

New Features on the 2019 Ford EcoSport

Technology

Ford also understands that today’s drivers are tech savvy. The EcoSport has the latest technology and even lower-end models come with tons of infotainment.

The interior is a contemporary driver’s dream. Ford’s well-made Sync 3 system is the centerpiece of the EcoSport’s technology. This system is intuitive and easy to use, working faster to handle all technological needs.

All EcoSports, including the base models, boast a rearview camera to help keep drivers and pedestrians safe. Other standard features include Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. More not-to-be-missed features include the USB ports, Ford’s smart key fob system called MyKey and the 4.3 inches of infotainment screen. If 4.3 inches is too small, upgrades are available that bring the touchscreen to 6.5-inch or 8-inch depending on the trim.

Need help getting around Kansas City and staying out of traffic? Access Waze through the Sync 3 AppLink and add it to the dash screen for convenient hands-free operations through the EcoSport’s touchscreen. Control it with voice commands or through the touchscreen. Waze makes it possible to bypass Kansas traffic problems by sending alerts about accidents in real time and traffic jams. Want to share information about an accident? With Waze, it is easy to share information with other users and to get information about the best routes to take.

Amazon Alexa isn’t just for home anymore. Bring Alexa into the EcoSport with the Ford+Alexa app linked through Sync 3 AppLink. Navigate with voice controls, get real-time traffic information, control your Smart Home devices, and even shop with Amazon Prime.

Engines

Technology is not the only exciting feature of the Ford EcoSport. The choice of engines gives you some control over the vehicle’s horsepower. No matter which is chosen, it is coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission.

The 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine and front-wheel drive come standard on all models of the EcoSport.

You can upgrade to a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with all-wheel drive and 166 horsepower. This upgrade is perfect for driving around town in the urban EcoSport.

No matter which engine makes the cut, the real winner is the fuel economy. With the 1.0-liter powertrain, the EcoSport is EPA rated at 27 mpg in the city and for highway miles expect 29 mpg. With the 2.0-liter, expect 23 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.

Trim Levels

The 2019 Ford EcoSport features several model options that offer different experiences to match any lifestyle. The EcoSport S, SE, and Titanium all feature front-wheel drive and a 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine with 123 horsepower. Or choose the all-wheel drive with a 2.0- liter four-cylinder engine, which is standard on the SES only. All options come with a six-speed automatic transmission. Also available with all models is the optional keyless entry keypad and remote engine start.

The low price of the base Model S means its standard equipment does not feature as many upgrades as the more expensive SE and Titanium models. Features such as cruise control, adjustable front seats, rearview camera, 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, cargo cover, a removable floor panel in the cargo area, Bluetooth, 60/40 split seats in the rear, an audio system with six speakers, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, and a couple of USB ports can be found on this model.

When upgraded to the SE, the EcoSport comes with special features like fog lights, rails on the roof, rear parking sensors, sunroof, automatic climate control, a steering wheel wrapped in leather, heated front seats, LED running lights and satellite radio. Also consider the Convenience package, which adds even more features like an audio system with seven speakers, a Wi-Fi hotspot to keep you connected on the go, blind spot monitoring, and a 110-volt power outlet.

The SES comes standard with the Convenience package and an upgraded 2.0-liter engine. It adds in 17-inch wheels, rear spoiler, heated steering wheel, and leather upholstery for a sportier feel. Ask about the Black Appearance package for a sleek looking upgrade.

Next up is the most luxurious model available — the Titanium. This model also features the Convenience package and many of the SES features but adds exterior chrome trim and an audio system that features 10 speakers and HD radio.

No matter which model you choose, one thing is clear: the Ford EcoSport is the perfect fit for today’s eco-conscious and technologically-savvy driver.
