The new 2019 Ford Explorer is a great vehicle for family life. It has three rows, a reliable range of powerful engines, a stylish look, and a wide range of features that you would look for in a family vehicle.

With the 2019 version of the Ford Explorer, more trim levels and active safety tech are available to you. There is also a power tailgate that comes standard on the XLT trim level. The trim levels available for the 2019 Ford Explorer are the base model, the XLT, the Limited, the Sport, and the Platinum.

Most new Explorers will leave the factory with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that gives you 290 horsepower. You can also choose a turbo-four for yourself as an option on most of the trims available. You can also get a twin-turbo V6 that gives you 365 horsepower for the Explorer Sport or the Platinum.

The new style of the 2019 Ford Explorer is similar to previous model with many tweaks so that it remains up-to-date. While the shape has changed a little, the Explorer remains clean and streamlined. There are also alloy wheels included as standard on all versions of the Explorer and you also get tinted windows standard as well.

There are three different engines from which to choose. On the base and XLT trims, you can get a 3.5-liter V6 engine that offers 290 horsepower and 255 pounds per foot of torque. This is a great engine to have for most situations. You can also choose to get the 2.3-liter turbo-four engine as an option that will give you 280 horsepower and 310 pounds per foot of torque. Last but not least is the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that you can get on the Explorer Sport and the Platinum trims. This engine will give you 365 horsepower and 350 pounds per foot of torque. Overall, the average combined miles per gallon on Explorers is 18.

No matter what engine you choose to go with, all come with a six-speed automatic transmission. You get front-wheel drive as standard with the option of all-wheel drive. The only exception to this is with the twin-turbo V6 with which the all-wheel drive is mandatory. The Explorer offers a smooth ride to it with many models coming with 20-inch wheels. The Sport trim has a special set of suspension settings that are firmer. With the turbo engines that come with the new Explorer, you will have no problems hauling a smaller trailer. The 2.3-liter is able to tow 3,000 pounds and the twin-turbo V6 can tow 5,000 pounds.

There are quite a few different ways to configure your new 2019 Ford Explorer. You can get the base, the XLT, the Limited, the Sport and the Platinum. If you choose the base, the XLT or the Limited you will be able to choose between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. As for the Sport and the Platinum, you will only be able to get those in all-wheel drive. No matter what trim you choose, all of the 2019 Ford Explorers come with a six-speed automatic transmission.

The base trim has features like 18-inch wheels, a driver’s seat that is power adjustable, a rearview camera, a central display that measures 4.2 inches, Bluetooth, USB port, and Ford’s own Sync command system. There is a standard 3.5-liter V6 engine that gives you 290 horsepower and 255 pounds per feet of torque or you can choose to get the 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that will give you 280 horsepower and 310 pounds per feet of torque.

The XLT trim gives you all of the features you see in the base trim but also a front passenger seat that is power-adjustable, satellite radio and a steering wheel wrapped in leather.

You can choose from two packages for the XLT. There is the Driver Connect package that will give you an eight-inch touchscreen in the center with the Sync 3 interface. You will get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration for your smartphones and an extra USB Port. The other package you can get is the Ford Safe and Smart package. This will give you blind-spot monitoring, cruise control that is adaptive, warnings on potential forward collisions, lane-keep assist, and wipers that are automatic.

If you are looking to amp things up a bit you will want to consider the Limited trim. This trim will add some of the features from the XLT’s Driver Connect package and will also give you leather upholstery, front seats that are heated and ventilated, a steering wheel that has power tilt and telescoping capabilities. You will also get premium audio and a third row of seats that are power folding. The Limited will come standard with the turbocharged four-cylinder engine but you can choose to get it with the V6 instead.

The Sport has had more fundamental changes and its trim level comes with the turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine that will give you 365 horsepower and 350 pounds per feet of torque. It also has a firmer suspension turning and towing package.

It is also possible to be able to get the turbo charged V6 engine with the non-Sport options if you go with the Platinum trim. This trim comes with all of the features in the Ford Safe and Smart Package as well as a panoramic sunroof, pedals that are power adjustable, a parking system that is automated, premium leather upholstery and a premium audio system.

Special Editions

This year the 2019 Ford Explorer debuts four special edition SUVs that include the 2019 Ford Expedition Stealth Edition and the 2019 Ford Expedition Texas Edition. There is also the 2019 Ford Explorer Limited Luxury Edition and the 2019 Ford Explorer Desert Copper Edition.

The Stealth Edition actually stands out the most of all four editions because it has some of the most obvious exterior changes. It has glossy black accents everywhere such as the grille, headlamp housings, fog lamp bezels, tail lamp housing, caps on the mirrors, rails on the roof, the running boards, and lastly the rear bumper skid plate. The Expedition badge is also a glossy black and so are the 22-inch wheels. Another exciting update is the red interior that is found on the stitching and the door handles that are the same color as the body.

Nearly every one in four Expeditions sold is sold in Texas so Ford has come out with a Texas Edition. This model is great for hauling and has a great cargo package in addition to a Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package. Another feature that is included in this special edition is the Enhanced Active Park Assist that will scan for available parking spaces and navigate you into one. The finishing touches are the unique badging and the 22-inch wheels.

The Explorer Limited Luxury Editions have upgrades to the Limited. These features are mirror caps of chrome, 20-inch aluminum wheels, Nirvana leather seats with micro perforation, and a steering wheel that has upgraded leather and leather inserts on the doors.

The Explorer Desert Copper Edition builds on the base XLT model. It has mirror caps of chrome and 20-inch aluminum wheels. The inside has copper-colored accents that go throughout the inside, there is leather trim on the first and second rows of seats while the third row is vinyl.
